The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) is proud to announce that we have been selected by America250 as an inaugural National Resource Partner.

The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, or America250, is a nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating the 250th anniversary of our country in 2026.

America250 National Resource Partners are a select group of expert nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations that will help elevate and scale America250 programming. National Resource Partners will help extend America250, convening and activating other organizations in their respective fields in a coordinated, unified effort to build up to the 250th.

 

 

“We are excited to be supporting America’s more than 21,000 local, state, and national history organizations as they use this anniversary to share our whole American history and help all people see how their stories fit in,” said John R. Dichtl, AASLH’s president and CEO. “The 250th will help us all use history to explore our country’s historical and ongoing effort to become a more perfect union.”

July 4, 2026, is just over two years away. We encourage you to access AASLH’s 250th resources and the America250 National Resource Partners to help your organization participate in the commemoration.

Pittsford Celebrates Our Nation's 250th Birthday
On July 4th the Pittsford Historical Society will host an open house at its Eaton Hall Museum from 11 - 2.
Come view our newest exhibit on Pittsford's families in the Revolutionary Era. Our display includes a topographical map illustrating where people lived with notes about the settlement pattern.
Artifacts over 250 years old from early families and Forts Mott & Vengeance will be featured.
Come challenge your taste buds with refreshments typical of the time like switchel and cracknels.  Cake and punch will also be served. 

Monday July 6th @ 6PM @ the Community Center (above Bailey Library on Moulton Ave in North Clarendon Village):

Rebecca Hougher of the Descendants of the Green Mountain Boys association will talk about the origin and history of this lineage society and how validating family genealogy contributes to community pride and dedication to Vermont's history preservation.  Whether you have deep Vermont roots that might link you to a known Green Mountain Boy or not, this should prove to be an interesting talk.  Please join us.  All are welcome.  There is an elevator.

America's Potluck is an opportunity for neighbors to join with one another to share a meal, creating a sense of connection and belonging and fostering interactions among people from all walks of life.

Just as the Declaration of Independence was read to the people on July 8, 1776, now, 250-years later, Americans in all 50 States and 16 Territories of the United States will read the Declaration of Independence ‘together’ simultaneously.
Required:  A reliable public address system, that even works with inexperienced speakers who are reluctant to hold the microphone close enough for it to work effectively.
  • One reader should be under age 10 and one should be over age 90.
  • No one speaks any words not in the Declaration of Independence!  No introductions, comments, anything.  No "Good evening ladies and gentlemen" or "Thank you."

As we head into the July 4th holiday, I am reminded that we are two years away from the 250th commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. As we gear up for this historic milestone, I hope you had the opportunity to see the exciting announcement last month that the National Women’s History Museum will serve as a National Resource Partner in Women's History to the America250 Commission over these next two years.

As you know, women have been largely excluded from the narrative of America’s historical contributions and achievements. As a National Resource Partner, we'll support the strategic vision that the America250 Commission has laid out to ensure that women's stories and history are incorporated in this commemoration.

Over the next two years, we will continue to elevate women’s history and stories through our work in support of educators, as well as develop new biographies, programs, events and exhibitions. We will also work alongside our National Coalition partners to amplify work that others are doing in support of women and girls, both past and present, as we look back over the last 250 years and into the future.

In the coming months we will share our broader strategy and framework for how we will ensure that this moment in time leading up to July 4, 2026 includes the many contributions and voices of all women throughout the United States. And as always, we will share this content broadly, digitally, and inclusively.
